The Chartered Institute of Personal Development – CIPD defines eLearning as Learning that is delivered, enabled or mediated by electronic technology for the explicit purpose of training in organisations.

We have summarised some of the key findings from the CIPD survey eLearning in Irish Organisations:

• Many organisations value digital learning as an effective method of training but continue to make greater use of traditional training methods

• US multinational subsidiaries make greater use of eLearning then Irish owned organisations

• Irish state and semi-state organisations are significant users of eLearning.

• There is growing recognition of the emerging effectiveness of Blended Learning where digital delivery is combined with traditional training methods. This is now the dominant position advocated within informed practitioner thinking

• Digitally provided learning can and should deliver significant business benefits and ROI, whilst having appositive impact on staff efficiency and on critical business processes.
